Former Barcelona coach is confident La Roja have what it takes to beat Italy in Sunday's showpiece final, despite shortcomings on the centre-forward front

The former Barcelona coach, who won 14 titles in four years at the helm of Barça, said he was confident of Spain's victory under the stewardship of Vicente del Bosque, and that he was looking forward to La Roja winning an unprecedented third successive major tournament when they beat Italy on Sunday.

"I think Spain will win and make history," Guardiola said from Indonesia where he is currently on holiday. 

Xavi wants to play a bigger part

"Reaching three major finals in four years [at Euro 2008 and 2012 and the World Cup 2010] is an achievement that will not be matched."

Weighing in on discussions that Spain need to field a striker if they are to find the back of the net against Italy in regular time - something La Roja failed to do in the semi-final against Portugal - Guardiola said there was actually no need to force a natural No.9 into Del Bosque's starting line-up.

''Playing with or without a centre-forward will be the same for Spain. The team is in good hands and Vicente del Bosque is the best coachpossible for the Spanish team. Other players can score goals from deep."

Del Bosque has alternatively lined up with Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas and Alvaro Negredo up front during this Euro campaign to make up for David Villa's absence through injury, one which Guardiola sees as detrimental to Spain's set-up.

"For Spain, David [Villa] is a huge absence. With him, La Roja would be an even more complete team."
