LEOGANE, Haiti (defend.ht) - First Lady Sophia Martelly visited several health centers throughout the city of Leogane over the weekend and met with doctors and administrators to take stock of healthcare conditions in the region.

Monday, July 9, 2012: The First Lady of the Republic, Mrs. Sophia Martelly, performed, this Saturday, July 7, a tour of the district of Leogane leading successively through the municipalities of Grand Goave, Petit Goave and in the town of Leogane. Accompanied by the Departmental Delegate of the West, Mr. Gonzaga Day, the First Lady was to evaluate for herself the conditions of provided health care to the people and see the real state of health infrastructure in these regions.

The First Lady visited the premises of "Life-Line Christian Mission", an institution founded in 1980 by American pastor, Reverend Bob Devoe, where she paid tribute to the officials accompanying the people of the town of Grand Goave and surrounding areas in the fields of health, education, sport and vocational training for over 32 years. The First Lady used the occasion to renew her commitment to cooperate with those responsible for this famous mission to facilitate the socio-economic development of the area.

During this tour, Ms. Sophia Martelly had discussions with various doctors and hospital officials at the Georges Gauvin of Grand Goave, Our Lady of Petit Goave and St. Croix in Leogane, about ways to help improve health care to hundreds of patients attending these hospitals daily. Taking this opportunity, Ms. Martelly also collected the list of grievances of these centers for appropriate action.
