South Sudan play out a 2-2 with Uganda in Juba
The World’s newest nation, South Sudan made its official international football debut against Uganda and managed to hold the visitors to a 2-2 draw. South Sudan played the match which coincided with the country’s first Independence anniversary. Uganda used a largely U-20 side while South Sudan included their India based striker James Joseph as well as captain Richard Justin and goalkeeper Jumma Genaro who play their club football in Sudan. The match got off to fast pace with some entertaining football but both sides wasted good chances with some glaring misses from promising positions. It was Uganda who opened the scoring and South Sudan then equalized from the penalty spot. Uganda went down to ten men after their player was dismissed for dissent but still the visitors retook the lead, before South Sudan secured the draw with a headed goal in the second half.
South Sudan will next be in action at the CECAFA regional tournament later this year.
