Cameroon, South Africa advance in AYC qualifiers
Cameroon and South Africa confirmed their places at the final round of the 2013 Orange African Youth Championship qualifiers with home wins on Saturday during the second leg matches of the first round.
The Indomitable Cubs beat Sierra Leone 2-0 in Yaoundé, whilst Amajita managed a lone goal victory over their Congolese counterparts in Johannesburg, but enough to secure them a place at the next round.
At the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, second half strikes from Charles Eloudou and Emmanuel Mbongo Ewangue was enough for the Cameroonians to ease past the Young Leone Stars, who finished the game with 10-men after Mohamed Seesay was sent off on 78 minutes.
The Indomitable Cubs progressed 3-1 on aggregate following a one-all draw in the first leg in Freetown.
For South Africa, Thabani Mthembu scored the only goal of the match on 65 minutes to ensure Amajita go through on the away goal rule after a 2-2 tie.
“The boys played very well, attacking at the right moment and credit must also go to our defence for keeping a clean sheet. We knew that they would try to catch us on the counter attack so with that in mind we had to be tight at the back,” an elated Solly Luvhengo, Amajita Head Coach, told SAFA website.
